Each of the following jobs require a person physically fit to fulfill this work. The general salary starts from a generous $55,000 / £28,000 for a roughneck and then up to US$66,000 / £46,000 for the driller. The better paid the job the more physically demanding and harder the work. This line of work begins with basic cleaning of the rig then progresses to assisting the driller then finally the main drilling work. Beginning work as a roughneck and working up allows employees to become gradually exposed to how the drill works and then how to work the drill yourself.
