Why work in the oil industry?
This is one of the world's largest and most important industries. At present, there are over 5000 companies around the world who drill for oil and gas. Most of these installations are located in oil rich parts of the world, such as the USA, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Venezuela and Nigeria. The role of the oil industry is also very prevalent in everyday life – the industry provides over 80% of the worlds transport fuel need and accounts for about 50% of the worlds energy needs.
Due to the technology in use in the oil industry, the industry heavily relies on skilled workers to safely fill a large number of positions. There are a large number of roles available – from operating machinery on the rigs, through to operate computer based systems. There are also a number of labouring type positions available for the right workers.
There are of course many advantages to working in the oil industry.
It provides a huge scope for job variety, the ability to earn an excellent income, and of course there are many opportunities for career advancement.
